A Little Ritual of Self-Care

There is something about the end of summer that makes me want to slow down, reset, and give my skin a little extra love.

After all those beautiful sunny days, my skin often tells the story. It can feel drier, a little dull, and not quite as radiant as it did at the beginning of the season. And I’ve come to accept that this is part of being in midlife. Our skin naturally renews itself more slowly as we age, and the glow we once took for granted may need a little more care and attention.

For me, skincare has become less about trying to turn back time and more about creating small rituals that help me feel cared for in the skin I am in today.

A few years ago, I was introduced to AquaFacial, and it has become one of my favourite professional skincare rituals, especially at the end of summer and winter. I love the feeling of freshly cleansed, hydrated skin and the way it can leave my complexion looking brighter, smoother and more refreshed.

At home, I keep my rituals simple. Gentle exfoliation to lift away the buildup that can make skin look dull, a hydrating face mask, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, and my red light therapy. Red light therapy has become a favourite of mine because it is gentle and non-invasive, and research suggests it may support collagen production and improve the appearance of fine lines and skin texture over time.

And I remind myself to extend that care beyond my face. My neck and décolleté, hands and arms deserve just as much attention.

Sometimes I make a little mask from what I already have in my kitchen—avocado for its nourishing fats, oats and honey for their soothing qualities, or a little matcha or cocoa for their antioxidant-rich plant compounds. Nothing elaborate. Just simple ingredients, a few quiet minutes, and the feeling that I am taking care of myself.

And then there is what happens from within. Of course, beauty isn't only what we put on our skin. I begin my mornings with water, fill my days with colourful fruits and vegetables, and include nourishing omega-3 foods such as wild salmon, sardines, eggs and walnuts.

Good sleep matters, too. These small choices may not erase the passage of time, but they help me feel and look more nourished from the inside out.

Midlife has taught me that caring for ourselves isn't about fighting every sign of time. It's about supporting ourselves as we change. We are not here to erase time. We are here to live beautifully alongside it. We can soften, nourish, hydrate and simply give ourselves a little more kindness along the way. At our own pace. On our own terms.

So, as summer comes to a close, I invite you to create your own little skin-care ritual. Light a candle. Put on a mask. Massage your hands. Take a few deep breaths. Let it be less about how you look and more about how lovingly you are showing up for yourself.

Because sometimes, the most beautiful glow is simply the one that comes from feeling cared for.

Here’s to your blooming!

With love, Nadia
